My Departure

This year has had some interesting moments so far and were not even half way through. Still 100% better than 2016.

Have you ever wanted to quit your job and just travel the world? Well that’s what I’m doing for the next year or two starting after this summer. I said in a previous post I decided to not pursue DIT’ing any further and just do post color. Well I did that and then I realized overall I’m just not feeling it anymore. I tip my hat to anyone who does film for a living and lives that freelance life but unfortunately it’s not for me anymore. It’s taken a toll on me in various ways over the years. 5 hour commutes plus a standard 12 hour work day will slowly kill you over time.  When your job gets to the point of not feeling motivated and lack of excitement, it’s probably time to throw in the towel. Do it with passion or don’t do it at all. Also living in the county where your job is kind of helps too.

However, with all that being said I still plan to color in between travels so I can actually afford to travel. Money sucks doesn’t it? (Any companies/brands out there want to sponsor some trips for me?)

There were a few big life changing events last year that snowballed into this decision but honestly I think it’s for the best. I’ve been slowly selling everything off the past few months to cover expenses my next big journey.

Over the past few years I’ve been traveling all over the place shooting landscapes and I love it more than anything, it’s one of the few things I get excited about anymore. So why not pursue it to the fullest? I’ve been skeptical to try and make it a full time job because of how hard is it to make it as a photographer in today’s world. Everyone with an iPhone is a “photographer” now. So the competition is real.

I figure I’m going to give it my all before I sell my soul to a 9-5 (only if I fail). I’m going to travel the world for a year or two and open my own business, photography related of course. Can’t give too many details because you know… it’s the internet.

My plan is to travel to almost every major country around the world. Finish up what I haven’t seen in America, Europe, most Asian countries, New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, Canada, parts of South America, Africa and finally the mighty Antarctica, to name a few. Penguins and polar bears, I’m coming for you! Hopefully with the current global warming situation Antarctica still exists by the time I get there. (Leo lets work together!)

I’ve never been so excited for something in my life like this. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do I just needed a good excuse to make it happen.

The journey along the way should be an interesting one as I semi discard what could of been a solid life long career in cinema. However, if you’re not really doing what you’re passionate about then whats the point? Money was never a motivation for me even when I was making bank, feeling totally drained and hating life after work didn’t make it worth it. A little motivational speech for whoever is reading this, I guess. Maybe this post will help someone considering doing the same.

Anyways, find what your passionate about and happiness and money will follow, as they say.
