Zion National Park & Antelope Canyon

So I took a spontaneous trip without a whole lot of planning to Zion and somehow ended up in Arizona to try and find Antelope Canyon… again.

I was actually planning on going to Death Valley but two days before I decided to go to Zion instead because it looked a bit nicer. Honestly, if I didn’t make it to Antelope Canyon I’d be kind of disappointed. Zion is awesome but if you don’t do the long hikes like Angels Landing, the Subway or walk through the water of The Narrows then there’s not a whole lot to do. Had I done more research I probably would of stuck with Death Valley, but I’m glad I didn’t because Antelope Canyon was amazing!

Earlier this year I tried going to Antelope Canyon but the road to get there was closed, so obviously I didn’t make it there. But this time I was successful! Again had I done my research, I would of probably gone to the Lower Canyon instead of the Upper Canyon. Both are equally amazing but I’ve seen some pretty colorful shots from Lower. It was a pretty cloudy day so inside the canyon was pretty dark, I somehow still got good results.

Seriously though, that place is magical. If you haven’t been there you need to go! Check out Horseshoe Bend too, it’s absolutely unreal and it’s right down the street. The Grand Canyon isn’t that far away either. One thing that kind of sucked was that you can’t bring tripods into the canyon, because with the lack of light it’s kind of needed if you don’t want super grainy photos (like what I had to deal with). Depending on your tour guide, they can be kind of weird about you using flash. I heard you can get a special photography permit or tour through there where you can bring a tripod and go through without a guide. But I’m not totally sure.

Despite Zion kind of sucking it was a pretty fun trip and I look forward to checking out the Lower Canyon in the future.

So lesson of the day: Do your research. I thought I did mine but apparently not good enough.
